Brief Description: Qallunajatut Urban (Urban Inuk) follows the lives of three Inuit in Montreal over the course of one hot and humid summer. Through their stories, the film explores "urbanization" of the Inuit psyche, as Inuit move further and further away from the direct connection of the land that has sustained their culture for thousands of years. When I pull here, the other ones get tighter too. My grandfather taught me when I was becoming a hunter. He teaches me all kinds of things. He wants me to have these skills too. Being a man, you have to know many things. I like to go camping during winter and spring. If my sled ever broke, I could fix it myself. I practice and I am getting better. I made this one recently. It comes with two figurines. Michelle made this figurine. She is uncle Elijah’s daughter. My “little father” made the other one. This little dude traveled all over the world. This little guy went to places I’ve never been. Like me, a new generation is living in the city down south. I think we are just like this sled. We will keep going forward. We have things to hold on to and a place to put them when we go on our journey. By adapting, we are going forward and we will keep on going. Date of production: 2005
